Z-Man Jack Hammer Baby Jack

The Z-Man/EverGreen ChatterBait JackHammer Baby Jack packs the proven performance of the JackHammer into a compact bladed jig designed for pressured bass, finesse presentations and situations where a smaller profile can generate more bites. Co-developed by professional anglers Brett Hite and Morizo Shimizu, the Baby Jack combines a downsized ChatterBlade, compact jighead and balanced design to produce high-frequency vibration, instant startup and versatile performance at a wide range of retrieve speeds.

At the center of the JackHammer Baby Jack is a downsized stainless-steel ChatterBlade that produces a tighter, higher-frequency vibration with more restrained flash than the original JackHammer. The compact blade provides anglers with a different look and feel while maintaining the hard-thumping performance that has made the JackHammer family a favorite among bass anglers.

A direct blade-to-head connection allows the Baby Jack to begin vibrating immediately when the retrieve starts. The blade repeatedly contacts the jighead during the retrieve, producing the signature sound and vibration associated with the ChatterBait design.

The smaller blade also creates less water resistance, allowing the Baby Jack to be retrieved quickly while staying down in the water column. This makes it an excellent choice when bass are actively chasing baitfish or when anglers want to cover water quickly without the lure continually rising toward the surface.

For slower presentations, the Baby Jack can also be slow-rolled around grass, rock, docks, points and other bass-holding areas. Its balanced design maintains a natural horizontal swimming posture throughout the retrieve.

The Baby Jack features a compact, rear-weighted jighead designed to improve balance, casting performance and running posture. Rearward weight distribution helps the lure cast efficiently, including in windy conditions, while allowing the bait to cut through the water and maintain depth.

Its compact head and body profile also make the Baby Jack an excellent option for skipping around docks and overhanging cover. The streamlined design can be skipped into areas where bass may receive less fishing pressure from traditional moving baits.

For largemouth bass, fish the JackHammer Baby Jack around grass lines, submerged vegetation, docks, laydowns, shallow flats and other areas where bass are feeding on baitfish. Rip the lure free when it contacts grass to create sudden changes in speed and vibration that can trigger reaction strikes.

For smallmouth bass, work the Baby Jack around rocky flats, points, grass edges and other areas where smallmouth are feeding on minnows, perch and other forage. The compact profile provides an excellent option when fish are keyed in on smaller baitfish.

The Baby Jack is particularly useful when targeting pressured bass. Its smaller profile, tighter vibration and restrained flash provide a different presentation than a full-size bladed jig while maintaining the vibration and action needed to cover water efficiently.

A custom medium-wire 3/0 DECOY hook provides a sharp, strong connection for solid hooksets while maintaining proportions appropriate for the Baby Jack's compact profile.

The lure also features dual-wire trailer keepers designed to securely hold ElaZtech and other soft-plastic trailers in place during casting and retrieving.

Pair the Baby Jack with a compact baitfish-style trailer for a streamlined swimming profile. Z-Man specifically recommends the 3.5-inch ChatterShad as a compact option, while the 4.5-inch ChatterSpike provides a larger trailer presentation.

Wire-tied premium silicone skirts provide additional movement and durability while helping maintain the Baby Jack's compact overall profile.
